Plaisted, Ralph (Ralph Summers), 1927-2008
Ralph Summers Plaisted (b. Sept. 30, 1927, Brunno, Minn.–d. Sept. 8, 2008, Wyoming, Minn.) was an insurance salesman turned Arctic explorer. He, with Walt Pederson, Gerry Pitzl and Jean-Luc Bombardier, were the first explorers to succeed in a surface traverse across the ice to the North Pole on April 19, 1968, making the first confirmed surface conquest of the Pole.
