Archaeological institute of America
The AIA is an organization originally founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts by Harvard University professor Charles Eliot Norton and his friends and colleagues. The first meeting was in 1879 to form a society "for furthering and directing archaeological and artistic investigation and research." Norton was elected the first president. The first local society of the AIA was founded in Boston in 1884.
