St. Louis Metropolitan Area Airport Authority
The St. Louis Metropolitan Area Airport Authority was cerated by General Assembly in 1970 to plan, acquire land for, construct, maintain and operate one or more airports in St. Louis metropolitan area. Illinois counties included Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair. Authority was initially funded from regular state appropriations to conduct feasibility, engineering and marketing studies. After site selection it was to issue bonds to finance activities. Authority received final appropriation from General Assembly on July 17, 1980. Thereafter U.S. Department of Transportation denied Authority final approval of proposed plan and subsequently Authority ceased to exist.
