Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and Other States
Originally established as a special conference of the Pennsylvania Ministerium in 1812, the Joint Synod petitioned the ministerium to form an independent body in 1817, and in 1818 the first general conference of the synod was held in Somerset, Ohio. The Joint Synod merged with the Buffalo Synod, Iowa Synod and Texas Synod in 1930 to form the American Lutheran Church. See C.V. Sheatsley's History of the Joint Synod of Ohio for further background.
