Bass, Robert D. (Robert Duncan)
Professor of English literature; author of several successful biographies of Revolutionary War figures from South Carolina; Commander, U.S. Naval Reserve; born 1904, in Scranton, S.C.; married, 1929, to Virginia Wauchope; completed degrees from University of South Carolina: A.B. (1926), M.A. (1927), and PhD (1933); also attended Columbia Presbyterian Theological Seminary, University of London, and University of Cambridge; in 1959, the Committee on Awards of the American Revolution Roundtable selected Bass' volume, Swamp Fox, a biography on the life of Franics Marion, as the best book on the American Revolution published that year.
