(1926), M.A. (1927), and PhD (1933); also attended Columbia Presbyterian Theological Seminary, University of London, and University of Cambridge; in 1959, the Committee on Awards of the American Revolution Roundtable selected Bass' volume, Swamp Fox, a biography on the life of Franics Marion, as the best book on the American Revolution published that year.
