Haag, Carl, 1820-1915
Carl Haag was a German-born artist and traveler, active in Great Britain. He initially studied as a miniaturist, but learned watercolor techniques in England. He travelled extensively throughout the Middle East, his respectful watercolors helping him to become one of the leading Orientalists of his day. He was a popular and successful artist, receiving several commissions from the Queen and serving as court painter to the Duke of Saxe-Coburg.
