Biographical notes:

Carl Haag was a German-born artist and traveler, active in Great Britain. He initially studied as a miniaturist, but learned watercolor techniques in England. He travelled extensively throughout the Middle East, his respectful watercolors helping him to become one of the leading Orientalists of his day. He was a popular and successful artist, receiving several commissions from the Queen and serving as court painter to the Duke of Saxe-Coburg.

Carl Haag was a German painter active in Britain. In 1847 he went to London to study English techniques of watercolor painting. In 1853 he was elected full member of the Society of Painters in Watercolor.
