Administrative assistant to Strom Thurmond 1955-1965; chairman, South Carolina Republican Party 1965-1968. Deputy counsel 1968-1969 and special counsel 1969-1972 to President Nixon; general counsel to Republican National Committee 1973-1974; President's representative to Sabine River Compact Administration 1977-; member, advisory committee to Campaign Advising Service, Republican National Committee 1978- Partner, Dent and Kennedy 196501968; partner, Whaley, McCutchen, Blanton and Dent 1973-1974; senior partner, Dent, Kirkland, Taylor and Wilson 1975- Chairman, South Carolina Billy Graham Crusade 1986-1987.
