This collection consists of a report written by Major Alfred Alexander Woodhull concerning the yellow fever epidemic in Savannah, Georgia during 1876. The report was prepared while Woodhull was stationed at Oglethorpe Barracks in Savannah and sent to the Medical Director, Headquarters, Department South. The report was published in The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, July 1877. This collection also includes a mortality table, diagrams, case histories, and letters by Woodhull and others.

The bulk of the material consists of presidential papers and graduate school notes (in German) of Greek and Roman history courses taken under Droysen and Mommsen. The presidential papers include five annual statements to the Board, correspondence, subject files (including material on the Scholarship Act of 1890), financial notes, and speech material, including two addreses concerning George Washington's activities in New Jersey. The presidential correspondence includes five letters from his counterpart at Princeton University, Woodrow Wilson.

Selected items from the post-Civil War correspondence of James Longstreet, relating entirely to military incidents about which there was disagreement among subsequent commentators and among the participants themselves. Most of the letters were evidently written in response to Longstreet's request for statements from the participants concerning their recollections of the events. The subjects discussed were events at Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Chancellorsville, and related engagements; also Longstreet's book; and his military reputation particularly in connection with his actions at Gettysburg. There is some comment on current political and personal matters. Correspondents include E. P. Alexander, Archibald Forbes, James M. Goggin, Thomas Goree, Osmun Latrobe, Francis Lawley, A. L. Long, Lafayette McLaws, William Mahone, Charles Marshall, C. Pickett (brother of George Edward Pickett, discussing his brother's career), John B. Richardson, Erasmus Taylor, W. H. Taylor, Charles S.
