A collection of printing published by the Bauhaus from 1919 to 1933, designed by Bauhaus teachers and students for internal school purposes and for outside commercial use, as well as other printing relating to the Bauhaus. The collection comprises a wide variety of printed matter, from ephemeral publications to whole issues of periodicals and exhibition catalogs, which are exemplary of what became identified as Bauhaus style typography and design. Most items were designed by Herbert Bayer, László Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer, and Joost Schmidt. Other designers represented in this collection include Josef Albers, Erich Comeriner, Lyonel Feininger, Paul Häberer, Dörte Helm, and Xanti Schawinsky.

Marguerite Wildenhain papers

Marguerite Wildenhain papers
The papers of California ceramicist and educator Marguerite Wildenhain measure 3.7 linear feet and date from 1930 to 1982. Found within the papers are biographical sketches; correspondence with patrons, students, and colleagues, including Eugene Anderson, T. S. Eliot, and Gerhard Marcks; writings by Wildenhain and others; designs for pottery and other artwork; one scrapbook; news clippings, exhibition catalogs, and scattered printed material. Also found are photographs of Marguerite and Frans Wildenhain, Pond Farm, workshops, exhibitions,and artwork, as well as two film reels depicting Wildenhain lecturing and in her studio. There is a 0.3 linear foot unprocessed addition to this collection donated in 2020 that includes photographs and negatives of Wildenhain's works of art, circa 1960-1970, (many in the collection of Forrest L. Merrill or Luther College) taken by David Stone and photographs at Pond Farm, circa 1980. Additional photographs are of Wildenhain and her works of art, circa 1950 (possibly taken by Otto Hagel).

This small collection consists of papers donated by former Curt Valentin Gallery employee Jane Wade, which provide scattered documentation of Valentin's life and exhibitions at the Buchholz Gallery (renamed Curt Valentin Gallery in 1951) including biographical material, correspondence from artists Valentin represented, writings and notes, lists documenting clients, exhibitions held, and artwork by Picasso sold by the gallery, clippings of obituaries for Valentin, and a complete set of Buchholz Gallery exhibition catalogs from 1937-1948.

Collection consists of a photographic record of pottery produced by the workshop of the Bauhaus at Dornburg, 1919-1925, with 85 examples made by Otto Lindig, Theodor Bogler, Marguerite Friedlaender and Werner Burri. One vessel was decorated by Gerhard Marcks. The original works are in the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Weimar. The photographs were taken by Annegrete Janda and one of each example published in her article entitled "Bauhauskeramik" (Sonderdrucke aus Kunstmuseen der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik, Vol. 2 1959, 83-114).

Chiefly correspondence of the Feininger family, between Feininger and his wife Julia (Lilienfeld) Feininger, their children, and other members of the Feininger and Lilienfeld families. Also a considerable amount of correspondence of Karl Feininger, as well as about 40 musical compositions, essays, and other writings by him, chiefly on music. Letters, 1939-1955, to Laurence Feininger from his parents contain many pen and ink drawings and woodcuts by Lyonel. Other correspondents represented in the collection include artists and architects, such as Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Rudolf Probst, Gerhard Marcks, and Walter Gropius; Alfred Hamilton Barr and others at the Museum of Modern Art; and German friends and family. Subjects range from wartime experiences in Germany, to exhibitions of the Blue Four. Papers are in German and English; there are also transcripts (5 v., typewritten) of portions of the correspondence, prepared by Julia Feininger.

Marguerite Wildenhain papers
The papers of California ceramicist and educator Marguerite Wildenhain measure 3.7 linear feet and date from 1930 to 1982. Found within the papers are biographical sketches; correspondence with patrons, students, and colleagues, including Eugene Anderson, T. S. Eliot, and Gerhard Marcks; writings by Wildenhain and others; designs for pottery and other artwork; one scrapbook; news clippings, exhibition catalogs, and scattered printed material. Also found are photographs of Marguerite and Frans Wildenhain, Pond Farm, workshops, exhibitions,and artwork, as well as two film reels depicting Wildenhain lecturing and in her studio. There is a 0.3 linear foot unprocessed addition to this collection donated in 2020 that includes photographs and negatives of Wildenhain's works of art, circa 1960-1970, (many in the collection of Forrest L. Merrill or Luther College) taken by David Stone and photographs at Pond Farm, circa 1980. Additional photographs are of Wildenhain and her works of art, circa 1950 (possibly taken by Otto Hagel).

Published by the Bauhaus publishing house in a first and final numbered edition of 110 copies in 1923, this portfolio, no. 44, contains four pages of text rendering the Wieland Saga of the Edda in a translation by Karl Simrock and 10 woodcuts illustrating this text by Gerhard Marcks. While the woodcuts were printed in the press of the Bauhaus, the text was printed by Dietsch & Br"uckner, Weimar, and the enclosure was produced by Dorfner, Weimar.
