Daguerreotypes of various persons, many unidentified, including men, women, and children, as well as landscapes and buildings. Identified subjects include: Sir Henry Bessemer, Colonel William Blake (Somerset), Mrs. Collins (mother of Arthur Collins of Drury Lane Theatre fame), T. Lovett Darby (age 3), Alexander Hancock, Henry Beck Hirst, Monsieur Eugene Houlin, Gioacchino Rossini, Scott Bower Scott, and Captain W. A. Thomas, the Duke of Wellington. The bulk of the daguerreotypes are by anonymous photographers. Early photographers/studios represented include: Rufus Anson, Platt D. Babbitt, Richard Beard, Antoine Claudet, L. J. M. Daguerre, C. Damme, Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey, Jabez Hughes, G. Jaquard, T. S. Jube, William Edward Kilburn, R. Lowe, A. T. Martin, John Mayall, Jersey Mullins, Nelson (Irish), Victor Plumier, Southworth and Hawes, Carl Ferdinand Stelzner, and William Telfer. Also included are two contemporary daguerreotypes by the photographers Grant Romer (1976), and Robert Schlaer (1991). The collection includes examples of hand-colored daguerreotypes, as well as a variety of case types, including embossed leather cases and union cases.
