Six letters of Alvarado: two to the King of Spain, Puerto de la Posesión, Nicaragua, January 18, 1534, and Guatemala City, May 12, 1535; one to Governor Barrionuevo of Tierra Firme, Puerto Viejo, Peru, March 10, 1534; one to the Council of the Indies, Guatemala City, November 20, 1535, on his Pacific exploratory activities, the sale of a portion of his fleet to Diego de Almagro, etc.; a record, Santiago de Quito, Ecuador, August 26, 1534, of the above-mentioned sale to Almagro; and the instructions, Mexico City, April 29, 1541, issued by Alvarado, jointly with Viceroy Mendoza of New Spain, to guide Gonzalo Dovalle in a voyage of exploration.

Collection of genealogical documents (originals and certified copies) concerning interrelated families of Nueva Galicia-notably the Flores, de la Torre, Alvarado, Contreras, Angulo, Figueroa, Padilla, Bañuelos, and Oñate families. Composed principally of files on genealogical inquiries conducted by the Audiencia of Guadalajara or lesser local tribunals at the request of petitioners José and Nicolás Flores de la Torre, Archdean Diego Flores de Latorre, Presbyter Luis Gómez de Alvarado, and others, who claimed kinship with such noted conquistadors as Pedro de Alvarado, Hernán Flores, Diego Pérez de la Torre (successor of Nuño de Guzmán), and Francisco de Figueroa. (Cont.) With two appended genealogical reports, one prepared by the Precentor of the Guadalajara Cathedral on certain Juchipila families and the other on the Flores, de la Torre, and González families, compiled by the Inquisition and a university official, Dr. Vicente Ignacio Peña Brizuela, at the request of Vicente Flores de la Torre y González. Contains petitions, questionnaires, testimony, texts of royal decrees, viceregal or judicial orders, powers of attorney, certifications, related material, and two colored coats of arms.

This Spanish text, for which there is no known Quiché version, is printed in Adrián Recinos, Crónicas Indígenas de Guatemala (Editorial Universitaria, Guatemala City, 1957) 2. Memorial escrito en lengua Cacchiquel por Dn Francisco Hernandez Arana Xahilá, cacique de Tecpanatitlan, completado y continuado por Dn Francisco Dias Xebuta Queh ... [16th cent.], 207 p. A legendary history of the Cakchiquel Indians, written in Cakchiquel by Indian nobles, with the portion up to 1562 by Arana and the closing portion by "Xebuta Queh" (Francisco Días Gebuta Quej). At the beginning of the volume, Pinart has included notes on Juan de Medina, titles of works on Central American explorations, and a list of Bishops of Guatemala.

Title: Titulos de los señores del Reino del Quichè : manuscript, [1501-1781?].

Consists of a document in K'iche' "Titulo Real de don Francisco Izquin ultimo Ahpop alel, o Rey de Quiché," (11 leaves), dated Nov. 22, 1588 and signed by the Last King of the Quichés and the eight other princes. There is a narrative account (fols. 15-22) of the events of the first conquest of the highlands by the Quiché ancestors in the year [1300], dated May 7, 1524 and signed by hieroglyphs with names of seven K'iche' princesses, three of the Spanish conquerors, including Pedro de Alvarado "Ande mi con Pedro Alvarado Jues Capitan Español Conquistador," and also the four friars accompanying the expedition. Also includes several official documents dating from 1587-ca. 1781 from Xelahuh, now Quetzaltenango.
