Collection consists of a letter from Sir James Wright, royal governor of Georgia (1760-1776). He wrote to Gage to request that he be kept informed of developments in Massachusetts. Divided into 17 sections, the document contains information on Georgia's geography, boundaries, location of rivers and towns, as well as French or Spanish settlements; trade with Great Britain; imported goods of British manufacture; trade with foreign countries; produce of Georgia; population and growth in the colony; the militia; forts and defenses; trade, treaties, population, and location of the Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaws, and Cherokee Indians; duties; civil officers including name, title of office, pay, and when appointed; and the court system.

This collection consists of the three-volume map collection, correspondence, notes, and notebooks. The volumes contain photocopies of maps collected by the Warings, the result of their research on maps of Savannah, Georgia. The first two volumes were presented to the Georgia Historical Society on October 5, 1970; the third volume, completed by Elizabeth Waring after her husband's death, was given to the society in 1974. The three volumes contain maps spanning Savannah's history from 1720 until 1897. The first two volumes are titled "Savannah and Its Environs." Volume I, 1733-1770, covers most of Savannah's colonial period: 1733-1752 under the Georgia Trustees, and 1752-1782 under the royal governors. The second volume, 1773-1897, continues with two maps from the colonial period through Georgia's "first century of freedom from British rule." Neither of the first two volumes contain military maps, as this was the focus of the third volume. Volume III continues the title and purpose of the first two volumes, coving years 1733-1903, but also contains "Defenses, 1720-1812." This portion of the third volume focuses on the eighteenth and nineteenth century defenses of Savannah, giving particular attention to Fort Halifax and to the Trustees Garden area "with particular emphasis on its military role and significance." The maps in these volumes were (mostly) arranged chronologically, and the source of each map is noted. The volumes also contain a narrative of "items of special interest and importance" regarding Savannah's history. The remainder of the collection consists of correspondence pertaining to the copies of early maps of Savannah and its vicinity, including defenses. Sources of information include: the Smithsonian Institution, Library of Congress, National Archives, Public Record Office in London, British Museum, University of Michigan Library, Boston Public Library, and Library of Harvard University. The correspondence is arranged chronologically. Also included in the papers are notes and two notebooks detailing sites and the construction of early coastal Georgia forts. The notes include: information on Fort Wayne, Fort Argyle, Liberty Island (Dutch Island), Cockspur, Fort George, Fort Prevost, Fort King George, Old Fort Point; excerpts from the journal of the Earl of Egmont; excerpts from the Commons House of Assembly in 1757; copies of Sir James Wright's letters regarding fort construction; information on doing research in the National Archives and their collection; and a newspaper clipping on an ocean flight in 1913.

Some of the records in this collection correspond with the Colonial Records of the State of Georgia (Candler. Atlanta, Ga.: Franklin Print. and Pub. Co., 1904): the letters from Gov. James Wright correspond with Colonial Records volumes 37-38; out letters from the Trustees correspond with Colonial Records volumes 29-31; and the Minutes of Council and Assembly correspond with Colonial Records volumes 6-17. This collection consists of a diary, letters, and manuscripts, including two biographical sketches of John Joachim Zubly. The only original manuscript in the collection is the diary; the letters are copies made by I.K. Tefft and Archibald Smith from their respective personal collections. The diary, 1770-1781, is too fragile for use; a photocopy of the typescript is available for use. It covers Zubly's last years, with most of the entries devoted to his ministry. The correspondence includes a letter from Zubly to Noble Wimberly Jones his preparations of an address to the inhabitants on the "alarming state of things;" a letter to John Houstoun and Archibald Bulloch; a letter to Governor Sir James Wright requesting repairs of the church and his home; a letter recounting what happened to Zubly during the Revolutionary War, lamenting the loss of his books, and stating that a nephew of the Bishop of St. David's is a wounded prisoner in his house; a letter to Captain Moon declaring that if Zubly is not indemnified for his losses, he will go to the law for redress; a letter from I.K. Tefft to William R. Sprague, in which Tefft writes he has not been able to write a sketch of Zubly for Sprague's Annals of the American Pulpit, but is sending papers that may help; Archibald Smith to I.K. Tefft telling what happened to most of Zubly's papers, and stating that he is sending copies of the few he has, as well as commenting on Zubly's diary. Also included are abstracts from letters to various recipients. A biographical sketch of Zubly by Edward J. Harden and "Extract from the Biography of Button Gwinnett by Maj. Hugh McCall. Published in Sanderson's lives of the Signers, vol. iii p. 124-125-126," with information on Zubly, are also included in this collection.

Stirk asks for an opinion on the procedure regarding Charles Watts who was named in the Bill of Confiscation and Banishment.

This collection consists of papers pertaining to George Welshman Owens and some of his descendants. Many of the papers relate to the settlement of estates of various members of the family. Some papers relate to the Civil War, including general field orders for Mercer's Division, 1864, assigning Dr. J.G. Thomas as Chief Surgeon of the Division. Some of the papers pertain to the Owens-Thomas house museum of Savannah, Georgia, including a garden book, 1892-1902; a plan for a proposed formal garden by Clermont Lee, ASLA, 1954; blueprints and contracts for alterations to the carriage houses, 1910; and blueprint specifications and agreement for alterations for apartments in the house, 1939. The collection also includes minutes and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Telfair Literary and Art Union, 1889-1892. The papers are in the same arrangement as when they were given to the Georgia Historical Society by the Owens-Thomas House Museum, with only slight changes for consistency. George Welshman Owens (1786-1856) is referred to as G.W. Owens I in the collection inventory; George Welshman Owens (1853-1924) is referred to as G.W. Owens II.

This collection contains photocopies of the daily logs from 8 December 1775 to 31 May 1776 from the ship's captain, Andrew Barkley and the ship's master, James Turner, during the period when the then British Royal Governor of Georgia, Sir James Wright, escaped from Savannah, Georgia. Also included are the day to day incidents of the ship's journey to Halifax, Nova Scotia via Rhode Island and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This ships' log records the details of the fighting engagements that the ship took part in, reconnoitering, stores and provisions taken on board, weather and sea conditions, as well as the reading of the Articles of War to the ship's company. Also included are muster records which document a detachment of soldiers coming on board on 26 December 1775 and, in February 1776, the "Governour of Savannah for protection & his Attendance." The original ships' log is located at the Public Record Office in Kew, London, England.

The documents in this collection support Alexander Wright's claim for the destruction by British forces of rice, other provisions, and the barn and machinery on his plantation, Richmond & Kew, near Savannah, Georgia. Two affidavits describe and evaluate the destroyed property. The third item in the collection, a proclamation of Governor Wright certifying Nathaniel Hall's authority as Justice of the Peace to take affidavits, orders that the Great Seal of Georgia should be attached. The fourth document is Sir James Wright's and Lt. Col Alured Clarke's proclamation giving their authority for ordering the destruction of the property; it is signed by both. Typed transcriptions for all documents are included with the originals.

The Henry Clinton papers contain the correspondence, records, and maps of Henry Clinton, who served under Thomas Gage and William Howe between 1775 and 1778, and was commander-in-chief of the British forces in North America from 1778 to 1782. Although the bulk of the papers cover his tenure as commander-in-chief, with particular attention to engagements in New York and New Jersey and the sieges of Charleston and Yorktown, they also document Clinton's efforts to restore his reputation after the war, and to some extent, his personal life.
