Also including clippings re use of kaolin clay and other raw materials from South Carolina in production of bricks, tiles, and Wedgwood china; and Meriwether's correspondence, 1 June 1959, with T. Lyth, curator of Wedgwood Museum, Barlaston, Stonke-on-Trent, England, re her request for microfilm copy of "the Griffiths diary."

Land grant on parchment, 26 Nov. 1785, signed by William Moultrie, for lands purchased in the vicinity of Camden, S.C.; attached plat on paper, 30 x 20 cm, for 280 acres of land on Granny's Quarter Creek identifying adjacent owners and road to Camden; and letter, 15 Dec. 1789, from Eliezar Alexander, listing the four overseers of Kershaw roads along three portions of the route from Pine Tree Bridge to Sander's Creek, Granny's Quarter Creek, and Great Flat Rock.

Collection of personal and business correspondence of Robert Morris. The collection was assembled at the Library from items purchased from various dealers in 1917-1925. Include are business correspondence between the firm Willing, Morris & Co. and Richard Champion, a Bristol merchant; Morris's letters to Nathanael Greene; family and personal correspondence; and papers related to the litigation involving the estate of Richard Champion, the heirs of Robert Morris, and the State of South Carolina (1825-1837). Also included are typescript transcripts of letters pertaining mainly to the business affairs of Robert Morris in 1759-1799.

Title: Richard Champion letter book 1773-1775

Richard Champion (1743-1791) of Bristol, England was a noted merchant and porcelain manufacturer. Champion, a Quaker, was active in political and civic affairs and sympathetic to American interests. He worked to elect Edmund Burke to Parliament for Bristol in 1774. Champion emigrated with his family to South Carolina in 1784 and settled near Camden, where he died in 1791. This is the fourth volume in chronological order of five letter books transcribed by Richard Champion and members of his family from original correspondence (the other volumes, numbered I-IV, are at the Bristol Record Office). Incoming and outgoing letters, dating 18 February 1773-21 January 1775, concern civic affairs in Bristol, including the licensing of a theater; the election of Edmund Burke; Anglo-American commerce and politics; family and business matters; his china patent; and other subjects. Among the correspondents are William Baker, Edmund Burke, Richard Burke, Thomas Pitt, the painter Nicholas Pocock, and members of the Champion family and their friends.

Title: Richard champion research papers. 1953-1956.

The volume is a scrapbook of material copied from various authors. It chronicles the career of Richard Champion (1743-1791) as a merchant, a manufacturer of porcelain, and a political activist. Champion, an English Quaker, created porcelain which compared favorably with that of Josiah Wedgwood. A staunch Whig, Champion emigrated to Camden, South Carolina in 1784 and later served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1790.
