A selection of account books of lines which went to make up the railroad. The most extensive series are for the Central New England Railroad (1899-1927), the Hartford and New Haven (1835-1872), and the New York and New Haven (1845-1887). Ledgers and occasionally other volumes for the following: Boston and New York Air Line Railroad; Boston and New York Central Railroad; Boston, Hartford and Erie Railroad; Central New England and Western Railroad; Charles River Branch Railroad; Charles River Railroad; Hampshire and Hampden Canal Co.; Housatonic Railroad; Hudson Connecting Railroad Co.; Joy Steamship Co.; Maine Steamship Co.; Naugatuck Railroad; New York and Boston Railroad; New York and New England Railroad; New York, Providence and Boston Railroad; New England Railroad; New England Terminal; New England Transfer; Old Colony Railroad; Old Colony Steamboat Co.; Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie and Boston Railroad; Philadelphia, Reading and New England Railroad; Poughkeepsie, Hartford and Boston Railroad; Providence and Springfield Railroad; Providence and Stonington Steamship Co.; Rhode Island and Massachusetts Railroad; Shore Line Railway Co.; and Union Wharf Co. Healy who taught transportation at Yale and was a member of the New Haven reorganization committee, ca. 1947-1953. These relate to the reorganization and finances of the railroad from 1947 to 1964.

Ensign, Charles Sydney, 1842-1917. Charles Ensign scrapbooks, 1896-1907.

Title: Charles Ensign scrapbooks, 1896-1907.

Newspaper clippings on various topics collected by lawyer Charles Ensign. The first two scrapbooks relate to cases in which a person's will was contested. The first case, heard in Connecticut Superior Court in 1896, involved Charles M. Pond and his brother Anson Pond, an actor. The second case was heard in Hartford Probate Court about the will of Henry Kennedy and these articles date from 1902-1905. The last scrapbooks are a combination of Hartford history, items from other historic towns in the state including Canton, biographies, articles about historic buildings and churches, court cases, and monuments, dating from 1905-1907. Each scrapbook was created by gluing articles onto the pages of printed catalogs for either books or music, and the articles themselves were primarily from the Hartford Courant.

The United States Sanitary Commission established the Army and Navy Claim Agency (ANCA) in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 1864 to serve as the USSC’s central office to assist Union soldiers, sailors, and their families in prosecuting claims on the federal government for pensions, back pay, bounty, commutation of rations, prize money, and other benefits, without cost. The Army and Navy Claim Agency Archives comprise the records of the Army and Navy Claim Agency; the records of the Pension Agency, its predecessor organization; the registers and cash books of its subsidiary local agencies; and the records of two quasi-independent USSC claim agencies whose origins predate the establishment of the Army and Navy Claim Agency: the Protective War Claim Association of the State of New York, located in New York City, and the Protective War Claim and Pension Agency, located in Philadelphia.
