Of note are lists and correspondence relating to the storage of collections, including New-York Historical Society objects, during World War II; information on collections from Charles and Theodora Wilbour; and a few letters relating to the early acquisition of objects from collectors, including French Egyptologists Jacques and Henri de Morgan and Armand de Potter.

This series contains records relating to the planning and organization of the department's exhibitions. The files provide information on the various stages involved in the preparation and mounting of exhibitions, as well as related activities such as events and publicity. Exhibitions which are most extensively documented are Africa in Antiquity: The Arts of Ancient Nubia and the Sudan (1978) and Cleopatra's Egypt: Age of the Ptolemies (1988). In addition, this series contains files on Egyptian Sculpture of the Late Period. Organized by Bernard Bothmer and John Cooney in 1960, it was the first comprehensive showing of Egyptian sculpture of the late period and was the culmination of ten years of research in Egypt, Europe and the Americas.

Memos and correspondence comprise the bulk of the materials and include information on everyday workings of the department as well as special museum activities, such as the Artmobile project in Egypt; inquiries regarding potential acquisitions of objects; and public relations. This series also contains files relating to additional museum duties of the department's curators, including Elizabeth Riefstahl and the exhibition committee and John D. Cooney's records from his term as acting director (1962-65).
