Diary of Samuel May gives account of daily life of a retired 19th century clergyman. A very active retiree, he continues to perform many ministerial duties along with writing, traveling, and attending meetings related to Temperance, Freedmen's aid, and Women's rights. He maintains a large correspondence, continues to write about the anti-slavery movement. In this year he resigns as president of the Syracuse Board of Education and goes to Washington in support of the Suffrage cause.

Greeley, Samuel. Account books, 1832-1839, 1861-1881.

Title: Account books, 1832-1839, 1861-1881.

The majority of these volumes is devoted to documenting butter made and sold from 1861 to 1881. Entries are brief and simply list dates and quantities. Also noted is income and expenses from 1862 to 1871. Items mentioned include eggs, farm produce, beef, paint, oil, flowers, and livestock. In 1871, the Greeley's bought shingles and paid for labor on their barn. Beginning in 1874, brief diary entries noting the weather, daily farm activities, and the comings and goings of family members, particularly "Uncle Moses," are featured. The back of the second volume contains notes and letters pertaining to furniture trade. Finally, a letter to Mrs. Greeley requesting a 30 lb. firkin of butter is laid in.
