The papers consist of correspondence, writings, photographs and family papers, and document Walter Camp's devotion to sports and in particular to football, which form he greatly modified. In his voluminous correspondence with Yale football stars, players at other universities, football coaches and sports associations, the interpretation of football rules forms one of the principal topics of correspondence. Prominent figures include George A. Adee, Thomas L. McClung, Vance D. McCormick, S. Brinckerhoff Thorne, Ray Tompkins, Alonzo Stagg and Fielding H. Yost. Camp's interest in physical fitness was put into action during World War I when he organized exercise programs for elderly men, a special program for Washington officials, and ultimately developed his "Daily Dozen" exercises for the Navy. These activities are reflected in his correspondence with Newton D. Baker, Josephus Daniels, John W. Davis, William G. McAdoo, Franklin D. Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. He also corresponded with Theodore Roosevelt, 1905 and 1908, in connection with a commission set up to investigate fatalities in football during the season of 1905. Approximately twelve feet of the papers are made up of Camp's writings, which include articles, rule manuals, reviews and books. Half the material is devoted to football and another large section is on physical fitness.

Title: Arthur G. Holmes scrapbook and memorabilia, 1926-1981 (inclusive), 1926-1930 (bulk).

This collection consists of the scrapbook Holmes kept of his student days at Stanford University and UC Berkeley, as well as his summer as a forest ranger at Yosemite (1928) and a summer at the Flying Cadet school of the Air Corps (1929), along with negatives and some miscellaneous memorabilia. Included in the scrapbook are photographs, programs, decals, newsletters, dance cards, invitations, tickets, ribbons, cancelled checks, and many other items. Subjects of interest from his Stanford days are mudfights, the Glee Club's spring tour in 1928, and student trips to the Pinnacles and Yosemite Park; included are two photos of football coach "Pop" Warner at his home. There are also several pages devoted to Holmes' tour of the Orient in 1926.

Thornhill, and Andrew Kerr, and players Murray W. Cuddeback, William C. Neill, Jr., George H. Baker, Frederick H. Swann, and George Bogue. The album also includes a few pictures of the 1924 yell leaders; basketball players and coaches; and three baseball players. The photographer is not identified, but the album is most likely the work of Berton Crandall or Richard Keeble, both of whom took extensive photographs of Stanford athletic events.

There are also a number of family photographs, photographs of Camp's physical fitness programs and of sports events. A small amount of family correspondence (1884-1934) as well as the correspondence (1950-1980) of Camp's daughter, Janet Camp Troxell, concerning him are also included. Some 20,000 clippings (1866-1925) chart the development of American sports, particularly football, but also cover track, rowing, golf and others. Articles by and about Walter Camp written between 1883 and 1925 are part of the clipping collection.

The Lila H. Connolly papers consist of materials regarding the Carlisle Indian Industrial School and its students. It includes letters Connolly received from Carlisle Indian School students, former Carlisle Indian School Superintendent Richard H. Pratt, and other Indian School personnel. The news clippings cover the dismissal of Pratt, Indian School students and athletes, controversy over a 1905 commencement speech at the school, Coach Glenn "Pop" Warner, Jim Thorpe's athletic career, the Carlisle, Pennsylvania, premiere of the movie "Jim Thorpe-All American", and Thorpe's death and burial.
