Papers of or about individuals from the Port Jefferson area or conected with Port Jefferson history, including members of the Sanford, Satterly, Saxton, Stephens, Spinney and Smith families. Satterly family papers include military papers of Luther Satterly and Henry Hawkins, 132nd Regiment, New York State Infantry, 1830-1835; shipping papers, including receipts for towing, harbor fees, boarding permits, wharfage, caulking, shipbuilding, and coal and freight, involving Captains Isaac Robbins, Joseph Brewster, Josiah G. Macy, and Samuel C. Roe, and various sloops and schooners, 1833-1879; accounts of the schooner James M. Holmes, 1859; and bills of sale for sloops Decatur, Polly, Ontario, Favorite and Jason, involving Joel Furman, Charles Tooker, Samuel Elliot, Selah Hulse, Jedediah Hartt, Daniel Robbins, James Tuttle, Isaac Brewster and others, 1807-1827.

Personal papers, including correspondence, agreements, bills, and receipts, maritime records and ships' papers, including shipping papers, legal documents, consular documents, insurance policies, protection papers, receipts, and lists, and photographs, relating to whaling in Nantucket, Mass. Also includes agreement (1811) signed by Laban Russell, of New Bedford, agreeing to go to Milford Haven, Wales and proceed on a whaling voyage in a ship to be procured by Benjamin Rotch; crew list (ca. 1843) for ship Richard Mitchell; materials relating to the maiden voyage (1809-1811) of the ship Thomas, captained by Davis Whippey (Whippy), including some receipts in Portuguese and notes relating to several African American crew members; ships' papers (1837-1841) for the Three Brothers, captained by Henry Phelon on a Pacific voyage; legal documents (1837-1841) issued in Hawaii concerning the ship Young Hero regarding a suit brought by the French whaling vessel Napoleon III when it was involved in a collision with the Young Hero which caused considerable damage; and insurance policy (1794) for the brig Neptune sailing from Nantucket to France with a cargo of whale oil and bone.

Title: History of Computing at UAB Project Research Files 1967-1993.

This small collection consists of the research materials gathered by Dr. Steve Wixson during the "History of Computing at UAB Project" on which he worked throughout 1992 and into 1993. The collection contains correspondence with prominent UAB administrators and faculty members about computing at UAB. The files also contain information about the history of computing in the various schools and departments at UAB. In particular, folders about computing in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery and at University Hospital provide valuable information. The files contain materials dating back to the 1960s when Dr. Josiah Macy first came to UAB and helped organize the Department of Information Sciences. The files also contain reports about UAB computing and newsletters from the computing facility at UAB. The series also contains correspondence of Dr. Joseph Fontana who directed the Computer Center during the 1960s. The correspondence dates from 1964 to 1970 and includes information about computing activities at UAB and computer hardware and software during this period.
