Pollock's diary of his early ministry in western Virginia, 1832- 1833; a journal of a tour of England and the Continent, 1841; and an account of the life of his son, Thomas Gordon Pollock (1838-1863), a student at the University of North Carolina, lawyer, and Confederate officer. The collection also includes sermons and sermon notes; scattered Lee and Pollock family correspondence, 1794-1944, about church, personal and business matters; and T. G. Pollock's letters describing trips to the White Sulphur Springs of Virginia (now West Virginia) and down the Mississippi River to Shreveport, La., where he established his law practice, and also his participation in Civil War battles, including the Seven Days' Battles, the Antietam Campaign, and the Gettysburg Campaign. He died in the Battle of Gettysburg.

A. D. Pollock (Abraham David, sometimes Abram David), a Pennsylvania-born Presbyterian minister of Richmond, Va., and of Fauquier County, Va., married Elizabeth Gordon Lee, daughter of Charles Lee. The collection includes Pollock's diary of his early ministry in western Virginia, 1832-1833; a journal of a tour of England and the Continent, 1841; and an account of the life of his son, Thomas Gordon Pollock (1838-1863), a student at the University of North Carolina, lawyer, and Confederate officer. The collection also includes sermons and sermon notes; scattered Lee and Pollock family correspondence, 1794-1944, about church, personal and business matters; and T. G. Chiefly the correspondence of Pollock while a student at Yale, U. Va. and a soldier commanding his company, the James River Rifles, in the brigade of Henry Alexander Wise. Considerable information about U. Va. and Yale student life appears in his letters and those of his friends to him, especially about Kappa Alpha fraternity at U. Va., and professor James Philemon Holcombe. Pollock moved to Shreveport, La., in 1860, to practice law, and then went in to the C.S.A. army. Correspondents are: among the Pollock family, Abraham David Pollock, his father and a Presbyterian minister of Leeton Forest, Fauquier Co., Va.; his mother, Elizabeth Gordon Lee Pollock, his brother Charles Lee Pollock; and friends and others, including, Edward C. Anderson, M. Boyce, Douglas French Forrest, Edward Livingston Martin, Meriwether Randolph, John Scott, and Robert I. Taylor Scott [189 items] -- Life in the exode [ca. 800 l. 32 cm. holograph] and Life and light in the New Testament [161 l. 32 cm. holograph] historical and theological commentaries on the Bible by A.D. Collection consists chiefly of letters to Lily Pollock from friends and family members on personal affairs, but also includes mention of William McKinley's assassination and funeral procession; an appendectomy; tuberculosis treatments; child abuse; and the necessity of schooling for Nannie Lee Janney so that she will be a "young lady of this century." Other topics include: the deaths of Taylor Scott, Matthew Gilmour (1904), and Nannie Lee Pollock Janney (1908); the upkeep and possible sale of "Leeton Forest"; the mining ventures of John Janney in Utah; John Janney's ocean voyage; corn crops; cattle sales; and the recovery of Monroe Gilmour from a burn injury. Collection also contains a photograph, wedding announcements, receipts, recipes, and an obituary of Rev. A. D. Pollock.
