Principally a scrapbook containing correspondence, reproductions of engravings, poetry, autographs, a pencil drawing, and an account of astrological incidents. The correspondence is related to the Perronet family and other early leaders of the Wesleyan movement in England, and includes letters from Vincent Perronet stating his religious beliefs and moral principles, and letters from Charles Wesley to Peard Dickinson, Vincent's grandson-in-law, concerning doctrinal matters and family and personal subjects. Other correspondents include Sarah Wesley, Joseph Benson, Adam Clarke, James Dixon, Joseph Entwisle, John William Fletcher, Mary (Bosanquet) Fletcher, Thomas Jackson, Henry Moore, and Richard Watson. Loose items include a discourse by Charles Perronet on man's need for religion; diaries of an unidentified young women commenting on sermons and spiritual life; and miscellaneous letters and autographs.

Wesley, John, 1703-1791. John Wesley family papers, 1734-1864.

Title: John Wesley family papers, 1734-1864.

The collection consists of materials relating to John Wesley and the Wesley family from 1734-1864. The materials include correspondence, writings, and photographs and other images of Wesley. The correspondence of John Wesley pertains to church business and theology. The correspondence of Sarah Wesley (b. 1760) is with family and friends (mostly with her mother, Sarah G. Wesley, and her brother, Samuel Wesley) and pertains to family activities, travel, and beliefs. Correspondence (1779-1780) of Methodists Joseph and Sarah T. Benson details their courtship. A later addition of correspondence between Charles Wesley and organist John Langshaw, pertains to Methodism, the American Revolution, and London musicians and music teachers. The collection also includes three of John Wesley's diaries. The original 1736 diary documents part of his trip to Georgia (1735-1738) with his brother Charles, and is written partially in the cipher they sometimes used in their letters. The other two diaries are photocopies of the 1735 and 1737 volumes held by Methodist Archives in London. Other materials include Sarah Wesley's personal writings, Sarah G. Wesley's poetic psalms, sermons of John Wesley, a Wesley family genealogy, and music manuscripts. Photographs and other pictures are of Wesley memorabilia, and drawings, paintings, and sculpture of the Wesleys.

Manuscript material by Wrangham relates to his review of Dibdin's manuscript; also present is an ALS, 1822, from Dibdin to Wrangham announcing Wrangham's acceptance into the Roxburghe Club. Other letters, 1792-1830, mostly to Wrangham, are from English literary contemporaries of Dibdin, many also pictured in illustrations, including Lindley Murray, T. J. Pettigrew, Adam Clarke, Charles Burney, Robert Southey, Alexander Chalmers, Gilbert Wakefield, William Gifford. Many letters discuss literary works and are referenced in the text by pencilled annotations. Also present is a broadside prospectus, printed by William Pickering, of John Fox's The Book of Martyrs, which was to have been edited by Dibdin.
