The collection contains b&w and color photographs, printed material, manuscripts and drawings made or acquired by the George P. Stewart Publishing Company for use in newspaper and commercial printing. The photographs consist of news and documentary images made by professional photographers, commercial studio portraits, and snapshots. These items document local, statewide, national and international events and cultural trends significant to Indiana's African American community. The Indianapolis Recorder did not publish every photograph in this collection.

Includes material relating to a summer resort for blacks at Fox Lake, Ind.

Fifteen transcripts of oral history interviews completed as part of a larger project to produce a manuscript. John Bodnar of the Indiana University Oral History Research Center was the project director. Eight interviews deal with Evansville, six with Indianapolis, and one with Tell City. Topics include family, personal, and area histories, labor unions, and African Americans in Indianapolis.

Title: Papers, 1910-1971.

The collection includes personal correspondence between Waters and her family and friends, as well as minutes, correspondence and other material pertaining to her involvement with teachers' organizations and other groups. Personal correspondence includes letters from journalist T. Timothy Fortune, and Wilbur F. "Sgt. Hop" Brown, a United States Army soldier serving with the 139 Infantry Division, Co. B, during World War I. Other personal material includes documentation of her charitable donations and receipts relating to home repairs.

Crispus Attucks High School (Indianapolis, Ind.). Scrapbook, 1950-1996.

Title: Scrapbook, 1950-1996.

The collection is composed of a scrapbook (BV 3469) and two folders of materials (SC 2697) related to Crispus Attucks High School basketball teams. The scrapbook chronicles the 1950-51 basketball season with newspaper articles from the Indianapolis Recorder, Indianapolis Times, Indianapolis News, and the Indianapolis Star. There are also some news clippings and some miscellaneous items from other basketball seasons, namely 1951-52, 1954-55, 1955-56 and 1958-59. Miscellaneous items include tickets, programs, score cards, and cheerleading yells. Loose items are in SC 2697. The collection also includes a program booklet for the second annual Bailey Robertson Memorial Games held at the University of Indianapolis on 24 August 1996.
