Title: Records, 1846-1919.

The records of the Library Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, spanning 1846 to 1919, consist of records of committee meetings, financial records, correspondence, and material pertaining to individual donations and bequests made to the Library. Series 4 contains papers relating to the donation of the library of George Bacon Wood and the estate of Louis A. Duhring. The papers pertaining to the Wood donation (1879) document the controversy surrounding the bequest of Wood's library. The catalogue which lists the books Wood intended to donate to the College had been misplaced by his executors, and many of the Fellows claimed that the College did not receive all of the volumes contained in the bequest. The papers relating to the Duhring Estate (1915) include letters written by College treasurer John B. Roberts to William J. Taylor, then chairman of the Library Committee. The correspondence concerns their confusion over the payment for a portrait of Duhring. Also included are lists of bonds and mining stocks held in the trust.
