The collection includes correspondence, 1826-1866, accounts, and other records of Charles Palmer, commission merchant of Richmond, Va. Correspondence in part concerns personal and business affairs, as well as Virginia and national politics, and includes letters written by John Minor Botts, John Augustus Chevallié, William Wood Crump, and James Ewell Heath. Also, contains correspondence, 1875-1894, of Richmond, Va., physician and historian William Price Palmer, in part concerning his service with the 56th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. Additional subjects include sculptor William James Hubard and the 1st company of the Richmond Howitzers, C.S.A.A commonplace book, 1857-1888, includes notes on persons and subjects from the period of the American Revolution. Other commonplace books concern the Calendar of Virginia State Papers ... (Richmond, 1875- 1893), edited by Palmer and others.
