Rogers, John. Account books, 1852-1871.
Title:
Account books, 1852-1871.
Consists of 8 volumes of the accounts of John Rogers from 1852 to 1871. The bulk of the entries pertain to farm products and activities. Such produce as wheat, rye, yellow meal, oats, barley, hay, and eggs are mentioned. Rogers seems to have sold items grown on his farm to area merchants; he notes transporting goods to Boston, Ma. Charges for the use of bulls and cows are also recorded. Payments were made to individuals for general agricultural labor, planting, work on a barn, sawing, and carding wool. Rogers noted such purchases as shoes, boots, nails, and fabrics. One of the volumes contains mathematical rules and exercises, probably performed by one of his children.
