Title: Treaty between the Onondaga Tribe and the State of New York, 1788 Sept. 12.

This treaty establishes the Onondaga Indian Reservation. The agreement was that The Onondagas ceded all their lands to the people of the State of New York, forever. The Onondagas were paid 1,000 French crowns in money, and two hundred pounds in clothing. They also were to be paid $500 in silver annually. Signers include George Clinton, William Floyd, Ezra L'Hommedieu, Richard Varick, Samuel Jones, Egbert Benson, Peter Gansevoort, Jr., and chiefs and Indian representatives. Text begins: At a treaty held at Fort Schuyler, formerly called Fort Stanwix, in the State of New York, by his excellency George Clinton, governor of said state ... with the tribe or governor of Indians called the Onondagoes [sic] ...

Correspondence, commonplace book, diary (1831-1857), draft of an autobiography, drafts of diplomatic dispatches, drafts in Marcy's handwriting of presidential messages to Congress (1854-1856), and other papers relating to Marcy which were collected and compiled by Henry Barrett Learned. Materials cover such topics as Marcy's career as a member of the cabinets of presidents James K. Polk and Franklin Pierce; New York state and national Democratic politics (circa 1830-1860); and international relations including the Martin Koszta case, negotiations concerning the Black Warrior affair with Spain, the Gadsden Purchase, proper attire for American diplomats abroad, and Pierre Soulé's conduct in Spain. Includes a commonplace book for Marcy's senior year at Brown University (1808). Correspondents include W.R. Andrews, Benjamin Franklin Angel, George Bancroft, August Belmont, James G.
