Correspondence, notices, and some reports of librarians Richard Hoe Lawrence, Henry Watson Kent (1900-1905), Ruth Shepard Granniss (1905-1944), George Leslie McKay (1944-1958), Alexander Davidson (1958-1960), J. Terry Bender (1961-1964), Gabriel Austin (1964-1969), and Harvey Simmonds (1969-1970). In addition to correspondence, there are orders and invoices relating to books and bookbinding ordered for the Club for the period. Records for some groups of years appear incomplete. Between 1906 and 1916, Ruth Granniss sent out handwritten correspondence using a carbon-like paper to obtain copies; some of these are now difficult to read. The Granniss files of correspondents' letters include a few of her holograph originals. The Alexander Davidson records contain material about the Morgan Gunst Fund for the Grolier Club and the Bender records include reports by Carolyn Horton on the physical rehabilitation of the Grolier Library during the years 1960-1962. Also: guestbooks for the period 1930-1955; entries often indicate purpose of users' research.

This typescript of the lecture "Humility, concentration and gusto," delivered at the Grolier Club (a New York bibliophile society) on December 21, 1948, is marked with editorial corrections of accidentals for publication in the Gazette of the Grolier Club (Vol. 2, 1949). The collection also contains two states of the galley proofs, two one-page TLS from Moore to George Leslie McKay, librarian and curator of the Grolier Club, concerning the publication of her lecture and the cancelled check in payment of her honorarium.

Title: Records of the curator, 1910-1944.

Correspondence, invoices, receipts and miscellaneous papers documenting the activities of the curator. The curators' files provide an overview of the Club's activities and its methods of operation. The files of curator Joseph Morton include his record book of the food and drink (with costs) served at all Grolier Club functions between 1901 and 1911. The William Billings material includes a file of autograph letters signed from artist and Club member Joseph Pennell. Among George McKay's correspondents were: Frederick B. Adams, Edwin Bechtel, Douglas McMurtrie Frederick Pottle, and Spencer Van B. Nichols, as well as such organizations as the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Bibliographical Society of America. Among the files relating to dinners given at the Club is material documenting those for Howard Mansfield (1928) and Paul A. Bennett (1953). Also: a small amount of material relating to the Hroswitha Club.

Grolier Club. Committee on Public Exhibitions. Records, 1885-

Title: Records, 1885-

The records of the Committee on Public Exhibitions include: agendas and minutes, correspondence, calendars of exhibitions, material concerning transport of collection, and drafts of exhibition texts. The minute album for 1894-1895 with a calligraphic title page, designed to mark the decennial of the club in 1894, was created for and by the Committee chair, Edwin B. Holden. The records of curator Ruth Fine for the exhibition "Printers' Choice" (1979) include substantial correspondence with a number of private press printers active in the 1970s while the records for the Sinclair Lewis centenary exhibition and symposium (1985) include the notes of the organizer, Club member Daniel D. Chabris. Substantial portions of the records for the 1990s come from the file of Martin Hutner, Committee chair. These records primarily concern exhibition proposals, funding, transport, and openings of the exhibitions. The material for the exhibition, "The Art of Publishers' Bindings" (2000) does contain drafts of exhibition copy and a computer disk created by collector and curator Ellen K. Morris.
