These papers of Fogg Art Museum directors John Coolidge and AgnesMongan document their administration of the museum and related professional activities. Mostof Coolidge's papers were created during his administration, from 1948 to 1968; most ofMongan's papers are from her tenure as acting director and then director (1968 to 1971). Thepapers consist primarily of correspondence, including Coolidge's correspondence with artdealers, and also include photographs, memoranda, reports, meeting minutes, blueprints, printedmaterial, letters of recommendation, page proofs, financial documents, sketches and grantproposals.

Correspondence topics include family business, literary matters, art collecting, the Dramatic Club, the New Deal, Wendell Willkie's presidential campaign of 1940, and World War II. Correspondents include family members Margaret Booth Jameson, Susanah Tarkington, and Donald Jameson; family retainer Stanley Thirkell; Carlton B. McCulloch; conductor Fabien Sevitzky; art dealer Abris Silberman; Earle J. Bernheimer; and Edward William Bok. Visual materials consist of photographs and prints of Tarkington in Indianapolis and Maine. There are individual portraits of him as well as many with family and friends, his homes, and pets.

Title: Social History of Spencer, Indiana 1974-1975

This project interviews people living in Spencer, Indiana. The interviewees include a variety of ages and the time period of their experiences span the 1910s-1970s. The interviews include discussion of small town life and changes throughout the past sixty years. The education system, religious beliefs, and economic conditions of the town and surrounding county are discussed. Many interviewees discuss the Great Depression and its effect on the business owners and farmers of the area. Changing moral standards and generational differences are themes throughout the project.
