Title: Perpetual motion contract, 1827 Feb. 23.

Contract between Samuel Denniston, of Grand Island, N.Y., and James Higby of Black Rock, N.Y., for the construction, by Higby, of a perpetual motion machine, based on the principle discovered by Denniston. Contract states that Denniston will obtain a patent, that they will jointly exhibit the machine throughout the United States, equally dividing profits, and that Denniston will grant exclusive privileges to Higby within the states of Ohio and Rhode Island.

He prefaces his reminiscence with information on his uncle, Major Henry Van Schaack, an Albany merchant active in the fur trade and a frequent visitor to the Niagara Frontier.
