Includes an engraved portrait of Mrs. Rowe pasted to the flyleaf; copies of two poems by Henry More, pp. 288-289, and two poems by Henry Grove, pp. 300-306, in Rowe's hand. Letters to James A. Wickham are tipped onto f. 1, from Thomas Stevenson (2 Aug 1841) and from John Sheppard (16 Apr 1841), both discussing the provenance of the manuscript.

Concerning the "Drummer of Tedworth," a ghost of a drummer long turned out of the house of Mr. Mompesson at Tedworth but whose drumming was still heard. Glanvill writes, "I perceive the story is not believed by the courtiers; And perhaps no evidence will convince them. I was last week with Dr. Charleson who laughes att the Notion of Spiritts, and particularly att this story. Which I some what wonder att in one that hath writte a booke of the Immortality. As for the story I told you att London, I know not what to think on't. The circumstances were strange ...," but adds, "I should not be so incredulous, when a sober, credible person affirmes it ..."
