Title: Diaries of Eleanor F. Bennett, 1905-1943.

The six diaries detail the years Bennett spent moving around Southern California while looking for employment; being a single woman, she found it difficult to find work other than working with children, which she enjoyed, but she longed to find a more rewarding job as a writer. She often talks about the hardships of being a single woman including her financial problems, her health problems, the challenges of the job search and her loneliness, as well as her social activities including going to plays and attending women's club meetings. Her various jobs took her to several southern California cities and her diaries include detailed descriptions of Long Beach, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Diego and Santa Barbara. Being a writer, Bennett's diaries are well written and full of details regarding the following: Hull House (Chicago); the Southern California Woman's Press Club; the Young Women's Christian Association of California; her trip to Seattle to see the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition; her trip through the Canadian Rockies; and a visit to Chicago. Bennett illustrated her diaries with newspaper clippings and illustrations from magazines; a letter by Lily Frémont is pasted into one of the volumes. The scrapbook contains clippings of newspaper articles and announcements written by Bennett; these deal with social events and news in southern California.

Correspondence chiefly from Jessie (5 letters) and Elizabeth "Lilly" Frémont, her daughter, (6 letters) to Mrs. Nathan Weston Blanchard concerning family and friends. One letter is sent by John Frémont in answer to a request for an autograph. Also present is an biographical article from the San Diego Chronicle, 1901.

Forbes, A. S. C., Mrs. Campo de Cahuenga Scrapbook, 1902-1971.

Title: Campo de Cahuenga Scrapbook, 1902-1971.

This group of material includes copies of documents from a scrapbook created by the Historical Landmark Committee of Campo de Cahuenga. The material was used to advocate for the Campo de Cahuenga (near Universal Studios Hollywood, California) to become an historical landmark and for a monument to be built on the site (to be named the Fremont-Pico Memorial Park). Many of the documents are written by Mrs. A. S. C. Forbes, President of the California History and Landmarks Club. It includes petitions, documents seeking public support, copies of hand-drawn maps of the area, and statements made by various people establishing the correct facts about the site and the events that took place there. Authors of the statements include: Horatio N. Rust, Elizabeth Benton "Lily" Frémont, J. B. Lankershim, Benjamin Balmer, C. C. Grove, Eugene Plummer, Charles Prudhomme, Ysidro Reyes, Manuel Cota, Geronimo Lopez, and other early California pioneers. Also included are printed handouts from the 1970s about the Campo de Cahuenga historical landmark.
