These papers of Fogg Art Museum Director Edward Waldo Forbes document his administration of the museum and a wide range of personal and professional activities and interests. The bulk of the collection dates from 1909 to 1944. The papers consist primarily of correspondence, including a series of correspondence with art dealers, and also include photographs, reports, expedition field notes and journals, printed material, newspaper clippings, blueprints, meeting minutes, letters of recommendation, insurance records, invoices, page proofs, telegrams, rubbings, sketches, visiting cards, shipping documents and press releases.

These papers relating to several British museums and art institutions reflect Piper's tenure as director of the National Portrait Gallery (1964-1967), the Fitzwilliam Museum (1967-1973), and the Ashmolean Museum (1973-1985), as well as his position on various boards and institutions, such as the Royal Fine Art Commission and the Leeds Castle Foundation. The papers consist of letters, notes, essays, reports, clippings, and some single journal issues and promotional material concerning the arts in Britain. Incorporated are the miscellaneous papers of Isherwood Kay, Keeper at the National Gallery from 1933-1938. Dating mostly from 1924-1938, these papers include correspondence with members of the art world, including Collins Baker, Kenneth Clark, Charles Holmes, Ellis Waterhouse, Martin Davies, and others, as well as additional ephemera and a small collection of art postcards. Piper's literary manuscripts are not included.

Letters to a professional curator taken from an alphabetical file of artists, primarily from 1907-1938, relating to exhibitions of their work in Liverpool, at the Canadian National Exhibitions, and elsewhere. Most writers are figurative British painters of minor significance, and - while all refer to their work - a few include biographical or theoretical discussion. Photographs of work often included. Included is a more important file of letters of G.R. Halkett, 1879-1915, with extensive ironic commentary upon British exhibitions of the 1870s and 1880s and upon the art figures of his time. With four letters from William Russell Flint (1923, 1934) and four letters from Haldane Macfall (1913).

The United States Sanitary Commission established the Army and Navy Claim Agency (ANCA) in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 1864 to serve as the USSC’s central office to assist Union soldiers, sailors, and their families in prosecuting claims on the federal government for pensions, back pay, bounty, commutation of rations, prize money, and other benefits, without cost. The Army and Navy Claim Agency Archives comprise the records of the Army and Navy Claim Agency; the records of the Pension Agency, its predecessor organization; the registers and cash books of its subsidiary local agencies; and the records of two quasi-independent USSC claim agencies whose origins predate the establishment of the Army and Navy Claim Agency: the Protective War Claim Association of the State of New York, located in New York City, and the Protective War Claim and Pension Agency, located in Philadelphia.
