The collection consists of a scrapbook, (1915-1935), containing newspaper clippings and photographs of architectural sculpture, together with loose scrapbook materials and one folder of correspondence (1894-1950). The scrapbook documents many of the projects undertaken by the father and son during the period when they worked for the major architects of the Beaux Arts school: Cass Gilbert, Delano & Aldrich, and Carrère and Hastings. The most important projects represented are the Donnellys' work with Gilbert on the United States Supreme Court building and the Woolworth Building. They also worked on Riverside Church, Grand Central Terminal, and the statue of George Washington for the New York World's Fair (1939). The incoming correspondence, formerly glued down in the scrapbook, includes letters of recommendation written for Donnelly by sculptor Karl Bitter, architects Cass Gilbert and Thomas Hastings, the firms of Delano & Aldrich and George B. Post & Sons.
