Records of Winnebago County's asylum, county home and poor farm which opened in 1871. This series only contains records of the institution from 1867 to 1969 by which time the asylum operations were known as the Winnebago County Hospital and the county home was known as Pleasant Acres. The records document the administration of the institution(s) as an asylum, county home and poor farm, and information about the population of the institution(s) in general. Administrative records include minutes of the Board of Trustees meetings (1889-1956) and financial records (1913-1951). Patient records (1867-1969) contain biographical data on residents and some information on individual patient care.

Annual reports to the Secretary of State and later to the State Board of Control showing the payment due the state from Wisconsin counties for the care of dependents and inmates in various state and county institutions. Included is the name of the county, the date of the inmate's admission and discharge, and maintenance costs. The represented institutions are those for which the Archives does not hold admission or inmate case files: Central State Hospital for the Insane, Northern Hospital for the Insane (later Winnebago State Hospital), Southern Wisconsin Colony, the State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Lake Tomahawk State Camp, and various county institutions.

Papers, 1953-1996, of Stanley York, a Wisconsin State Assemblyman (R-Buffalo, Pepin, and Pierce Counties), pastor, and executive in various public sector and non-profit positions. The majority of the records relate to his tenure in the Wisconsin State Assembly (1967-1970) consisting of constituent correspondence, bill files, reference materials, reports, meeting minutes, news clippings, and committee files pertaining to such issues as public welfare, sex education, the upper Mississippi river basin, and disruptions at the University of Wisconsin. A small amount of materials relate to his post-legislative career as Commissioner of the Dept. of Industry, Labor and Human Relations; Commissioner of the Public Service Commission; Executive Director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities; Executive Assistant of the Dept. of Health and Social Services; and Director of the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, as well as his role as a pastor for the United Church of Christ.

Title: Wisconsin state institutions photographs, 1893.

Photographs of Wisconsin state institutions made for the Wisconsin State Board of Control by H. H. Bennett and Paul G. Lecher in 1893. The images were made for the Columbian Exposition. Institutions photographed include the Wisconsin State Hospital for the Insane in Mendota, the Northern Hospital for the Insane in Winnebago, the Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun, the State Industrial School for Boys in Waukesha, the State School in Sparta, and the State School for the Blind in Janesville. The State Board of Control hired Lecher to make the photographs. Lecher, in turn, hired Bennett. Bennett made the negatives from which Lecher produced the prints.
