Papers contain a volume, 1819-1828, of writings related to the administration of the estate of Robert Moore Riddick, Nansemond County, Va., including accounts, copies of legal agreements and appraisals, an excerpt from Riddick's will, and entries regarding slaves, especially slave hires. Volume apparently kept by Joseph Prentis, administrator of Riddick's estate. The papers also contain a typescript copy, n.d., of the will, 1 December 1804, of Robert Moore Riddick, attested in 1821; and a statement, 20 August 1817, by Josiah Riddick, releasing the estate of Robert Moore Riddick from legal obligations to the estate of William Riddick. Papers also include an exemption, 14 February 1820, from taxation of the slaves belonging to the estate of Robert Moore Riddick; and a letter, 22 September 1855, from William E. Jordan, Quaker Neck, (Va.?), to Mr. Prentice, thanking Prentice for a favor; and notes, 19 August 1860, for sermons. Papers also include a solicitation, n.d., "to the ladies of the Episcopal Church" for funds to purchase a new surplice; and genealogical notes, n.d., for the Prentis, Riddick, and Webb families.
