Account book, 1782 Apr.-1787 Dec., containing general accounts of articles purchased and cash paid by Comfort Sands & Co., on account of the contractors of the moving army. Entries include names of suppliers, and payments for a wide variety of goods and services, such as tea, whiskey, flour, tallow, wine, rum, plumes, paper, hides, cartage and freightage, meat, various provisions, printing, cooperage, losses on gold, etc. Included are transactions with Udney Hay, Walter Livingston, Tench Francis, Daniel Parker, William Duer, Richardson Sands, David Waterman, and many others. The bulk of the entries span Apr.-Dec., with a few entries as late as 1787.

Volumes contain copies of letters sent and received, and pertain to the feeding, housing, clothing, and equipping of the army in New York and New England, including transportation problems, requisitions, payment, relations with merchants, etc. Correspondents include: Gen. George Washington and his aides, Maj. Gen. Nathanael Greene, Col. H.E. Lutterlok, Maj. Gen. Philip Schuyler, Maj. Daniel Carthy, Capt. Uriah Mitchell, Maj. John Campbell, Col. Ralph Pomeroy, Col. Jabez Hatch, Maj. Nicholas Quakenbush, Brig. Gen. James Clinton, Maj. David Wolfe, Capt. Walter Pyncheon, Capt. Thomas Mitchell, Col. Henry Dearborn, Maj. John Keese, Charles Tillinghast, Maj. Gen. William Heath, Udney Hay, and a few others. Volumes are numbered 1-20. Volume 20 consists of arithmetic tables and tables of weights and measures and bears the name Algernon Sidney William Hughes on the frontispiece.

Letterbooks, 1778-1782, containing copies of letters from Colonel John Lamb of the Second Continental Artillery to Brig. Gen. Henry Knox, Gen. George Washington, Maj. Gen. Benedict Arnold, Gov. George Clinton, Col. Udney Hay, Maj. Sebastian Bauman, Lt. Col. Ebenezer Stevens, John Ruddock, Thomas Frothingham, and many others. Most pertain to miltary matters, such as the recruiting and dispatching of troops, supplies, orders, conduct of fellow officers, etc. Included in the first volume are 74 p. of copies of regulations for doing military duty, apparently taken from various sources.

Papers, 1776-1783, relating to the supply and provisioning of the Continental Army in the vicinity of Fishkill and Newburgh (N.Y.). the collection includes correspondence, receipts, invoices, orders, directions, returns, etc., mostly addressed to John Fisher by other members of the Quartermaster General's department, including Daniel Hale, John Keese, Anthony Byvanck, William M. Betts, Udny Hay, Joseph Bowne, Uriah Mitchell, and James McMaster, all of either Fishkill or Newburgh. One paper delivers two Hessian prisoners into Fisher's charge. There are also a few other miscellaneous military papers relating to the area, including an account of a court martial held at Fishkill under Rufus Putnam in 1778, in which the prisoners were accused of robbing a local house.
