The records of the Harvard lotteries are comprised of materials created in the process of administering the Harvard College lotteries sanctioned by Massachusetts General Court to raise money for dormitory-building projects. The collection consists of five series containing lottery tickets, newspaper and broadside lottery announcements, accounting records, and administrative lists used to manage the lottery drawings. Most of the documents were created by the managers of the lottery in organizing, publicizing, and drawing the lotteries, and provide a resource for studying the operations of state-sanctioned lotteries in late 18th and early 19th century Massachusetts.

Business papers, 1766-1869, of Boston merchant and textile manufacturer Patrick Tracy Jackson and his father Jonathan Jackson, as well as estate papers, including those of Francis Cabot Lowell. Jonathan Jackson business papers consist of account books of the partnerships he undertook as a Newburyport merchant, including Jackson & Bromfield; Jackson, Tracy, & Tracy; and Jackson & Higginson. His partners included John Bromfield, John Tracy, Nathaniel Tracy, and Stephen Higginson. Account books kept by Jackson, Tracy, & Tracy reflect the impact of the Revolution on trade; include privateering and distill house accounts; and contain ships' accounts, including the brigs Elizabeth, Hibernia, and Pallas, and the sloops Mermaid, Conway, and Lively. Patrick Tracy Jackson business papers consist of account books containing records of personal bank accounts, transactions with other merchants, trade in a variety of goods, and stock in textile companies including the Boston Manufacturing Co. and the Merrimack Manufacturing Co., as well as records of the brig Vancouver and the Union Canal Lottery. Estate papers include records, inventories, and accounts of the Francis Cabot Lowell estate, Louisa Higginson trust accounts, and Gardiner Greene estate accounts.

Civil War letters from Samuel Cabot, Jr., to his family, and courtship lettrs to Elizabeth Almy (1914-1916) are also included. The rest of the correspondence focuses on Elizabeth (Almy) Cobb Hall, and includes four generations: her parents, Charles and Helen Jackson (Cabot) Almy; two of her children, Sidney Cobb and Helen (Cobb) Solomon White; and her grandchildren. Also included is material on the Massachusetts Conference on Social Work, civil service in Massachusetts, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Mothers' Discussion Club, Monday Lunch Club, and other organizations.
