Title: Group Material Archive Bulk, 1979-1996 1976-2009

Active from 1979-1996, Group Material was an artists' collaboration that produced over forty-five projects addressing a wide range of social, political, and artistic issues. Members included Doug Ashford, Julie Ault, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Mundy McLaughlin, Karen Ramspacher and Tim Rollins, among others. The collective also worked with artists such as Vito Acconci, Mike Glier, Barbara Kruger, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Faith Ringgold, Martha Rosler, Andres Serrano, Nancy Spero, Anton van Dalen, Carrie Mae Weems, and many others. Materials in the collection document the origins, processes and context of Group Material's activities.

Title: Artists Space Archive 1973 - 2009

The original goal of Artists Space was to support young, emerging artists, specifically those who had not yet had a solo show in New York City. Artists Space became one of the most influential alternative non-profit arts spaces in the Downtown New York Scene, hosting a variety of prominent exhibitions including Adrian Piper’s "It’s Just Art" (1981), Nan Goldin’s "Witnesses: Against Our Vanishing" (1989), Douglas Crimp’s "Pictures" (1977), and Michael Asher’s "Untitled" (1988). The bulk of the material is exhibition files, and includes research files, coordination, opening, reception, sales, touring, and dismantling. This collection also preserves artists' materials (CVs, catalogues, photographic elements), correspondence, drafts of published works, financial records, gallery floorplans and maps, grant applications, loan and legal documentation, and promotional matter in the form of brochures, postcard announcements, newsletters, posters, and press releases.

Public Art Fund Archive, 1966-2009

Title: Public Art Fund Archive 1966-2009

Founded in 1977, the Public Art Fund is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting works of contemporary art at public sites throughout New York City. The materials in the collection are the primary documentation of hundreds of Public Art Fund exhibitions, featuring artists such as: Louise Bourgeois, Chris Burden, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, William Kentridge, Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, Pipilotti Rist, Kiki Smith, David Wojnarowicz, and Martin Wong, among others. The collection also documents the history of founder Doris C. Freedman and her work with two pioneering arts organizations that were precursors to the Public Art Fund: City Walls and the Public Arts Council.
