Title: The Review of Contemporary Fiction/Dalkey Archive Press : records, 1980-1990

John O'Brien founded The Review of Contemporary Fiction (RCF) in 1980 and established the Dalkey Archive Press three years later. Since its inaugural Spring 1981 issue, RCF has appeared with exact regularity three times a year. Each number is devoted to one or two contemporary figures, predominantly American and British but also some European writers as well. The contents of a typical number include original work by the writer featured, an interview with him or her, a memoir or other biographical reminiscence by literary colleagues, and several extended critical articles. The Dalkey Archive Press began as a modest adjunct to RCF, issuing reprints of books by writers featured in the journal, or associated with those writers. Then in 1986, O'Brien began issuing original works.

David Dunaway's Writing the Southwest collection is divided into two series audio and research. The audio series consists of sound recordings from the radio documentary series "Writing the Southwest," a thirteen-part national radio documentary that explores literature from multiethnic authors (mainly from New Mexico) who helped define Southwestern American literature. Fourteen authors are represented and for each one there is related audio. The authors include: Edward Abbey, Rudolfo Anaya, Denise Chávez, Joy Harjo, Tony Hillerman, Linda Hogan, Barbara Kingsolver, Terry McMillan, John Nichols, Simon Ortiz, Alberto Ríos, Stan Steiner, Luci Tapahonso, and Frank Waters. The audio series also contains recordings on consulting conferences in preparation for the radio series and interviews, readings, lectures and broadcasts with the writers listed above. The research series constitutes the research David Dunaway collected from 1987-1995 to write the scripts, co-produce the radio series and edit the companion volume Writing the Southwest. The materials include biographical documents, criticism, correspondence, interview transcripts, production scripts, notes and a few photographs. In addition, the research series has publicity, a lecture series and media documents from promoting the radio series and book, consulting conferences transcripts and an overview of the project written by David Dunaway. Thirty essays and short stories, most of which were previously published between 1948 and 1983 in magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, Air BP, Pacific Northwest Quarterly, Short Stories, and Wide World. Most of the essays and stories are based on Jenkins' experience as a young man as a smoke jumper with the United States Forest Service in Oregon and Montana, and as a park ranger in Yosemite National Park. Other essays relate his experiences as a West Point cadet, and as a professor of English at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Also included are Jenkins' literary portraits of three friends: Joe Herrera, a Pueblo Indian artist, and former governor of Cochiti pueblo; novelist Edward Abbey, author of the book Brave Cowboy, later made into the film Lonely are the Brave; and Willard "Pete" Pederson, a diver with the Navy during World War II, athlete, and English professor.

Luna Bergere Leopold (1915-2006, APS 1972), son of prominent conservationist Aldo Leopold (1887-1948), worked during seven decades to bring the field of hydrology and fluvial geomorphology into the conscience of urban planners and those who would restructure the flow of rivers and streams. He established the first practical, major field methods by which the geometry of streams and the waterflow in them are measured and how these data are analyzed. His work is based on meticulous field studies over the course of a multifaceted career as a meteorologist, hydrologist, geomorphologist, professor, and conservationist. This collection comprises his extensive incoming correspondence and other papers mostly during his active retirement years (1986-2006), with some earlier papers. The collection also contains his profusely illustrated personal journal in 12 volumes (1931-2003) that include world travels; some 70 field notebooks (1937-2006) embracing localities in the Western and Northeastern United States, in Hawaii, and some foreign locations (chiefly in India and Israel); more than a hundred original plane table maps from locales in the United States; a significant set of correspondence and papers (1956-1986) from hydrologist and sedimentologist Ralph Alger Bagnold (1896-1990), who in his own right was a pioneer in modern sedimentology and hydrology; and publications and manuscripts over the course of Leopold's multidisciplined career.
