This collection comprises files on the California Osteopathic Association (COA) that were accumulated by Forest Grunigen, a California osteopath who was an active member of the organization and served as its president in the 1940s. Materials include correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, news clippings and reports. The bulk of the material covers the COA/California Medical Association (CMA) merger, in which Grunigen was a key figure. Also in the collection are the files of Dain Tasker, who served as the Historian of COA in the 1950s. His files include an unpublished manuscript of his history of the osteopathic profession in California.

The California College of Medicine (CCM) records span the years from the establishment of its first predecessor, the Pacific College of Osteopathy in 1896 to 1967 when CCM was incorporated into UCI. The materials document particularly well the two major upheavals for osteopathy in California that occurred at the end of this period: the merger in the 1960s of the Doctor of Osteopathy degree with the Medical Doctor degree, and the merger of CCM with the University of California. Also included are student records and financial documents from 1914 to 1961.

A double-spaced typescript report with cover title: "Pfefferkorn Study. [Los Angeles County General Hospital]". Blanche Pfefferkorn, who at the time was Director, Department of Studies, of the New York City-based National League of Nursing Education, conducted a study of the nursing service provided in the Los Angeles County Hospital and the Los Angeles Osteopathic Hospital. Since student nurses from the County General Hospital School of Nursing were receiving clinical training in the institution, the School of Nursing is included in the report's recommendations. The "Preliminary statement" and the Appendix are missing from this copy of the report, as are almost all of the tables. After the first 25 pages, the page numbers indicated in the table of contents no longer match the copy's pagination.
