Thirty-six photographs from the collection of Peter Chardon Brooks, 3rd (1831-1920). Contains formal portraits of Ellen Shepherd Brooks, Peter Chardon Brooks, 3rd, and his wife Sarah Lawrence Brooks (1845-1915). Also contains photographs of sculpture and paintings of members of the Brooks family, as well as views of Groton and Medford, Mass. and the Shepherd family plot in the cemetery at Shepherdstown, W. Va., among other subjects. Photographers include James Notman, A.N. Hardy, Horatio G. Smith, Allen & Rowell, and Notman Photograph Company (all of Boston, Mass.). This collection contains cabinet cards, cartes de visite, tin-types, and other paper-based photographs.

Most of the photographs are portraits of various Adams family relatives, including Abigail Brooks Adams, Brooks Adams, Charles Francis Adams I, Frances Crowninshield Adams, Henry Adams, and John Quincy Adams II, as well as photographs of herself and her husband, Robert Homans, as children and young adults. There are also views of Quincy, Mass., including John Adams' birthplace, taken ca. 1870-1880, and color snapshot photographs of a gathering at the Glades Club in Scituate, Mass. in 1966 to celebrate the publication of her book. Photographers include James Notman and John Adams Whipple of Boston, Mass., James A. Jenney, and Mrs. Richard Stokes, among many others. Includes cartes de visite and cabinet cards.

Photographs of Henry Davis Minot [HDM], ornithologist, artist, and railroad executive, best known as the first president of the Eastern Minnesota railroad. One narrow box of loose photographs includes portraits of HDM as a child and as an adult, as well as various Minot family members and friends; several souvenir carte de visite photographs of England and France; and various images of birds. Subjects of the portraits include HDM's friends and classmates at Harvard University (including Henry Eliot Guild, Francis James Child, and Theodore Roosevelt), Alice Woodburn Minot, Charles Sedgwick Minot, Katharine Sedgwick Minot, Laurence Minot, Mary Minot, and William Minot, among others. The photographs include cartes de visite, cabinet cards, and tintypes and were taken by George Kendall Warren (of Cambridge, Mass.) and James Notman, William Notman, John Adams Whipple, Allen & Horton, and Allen & Rowell (all of Boston, Mass.).
