Throughout the interviews, King talks about the role of the Executive Faculty and colleagues such as Carl Cori, Oliver Lowry, and Carl Moore. In the 1st interview: King discusses the dispute between the Washington University School of Medicine (and its dean, Edward Dempsey) and Barnes Hospital (and its chairman, Edgar M. Queeny) in the early 1960s. After Dempsey's abrupt departure to a position in Washington, D.C., King became the acting dean of the medical school in 1964 and then dean the following year. 2nd interview: King discusses the WUSM under vice chancellor for medical affairs William H. Danforth, from 1965-71. 3rd interview: King discusses student unrest at Washington University during the Vietnam War and racial unrest at the medical school in the late 1960s. He also discusses Sam Guze, who succeeded Danforth as vice chancellor for medical affairs. 4th - 9th interviews: King discusses his recruitment of department heads, such as Roy Vagelos, Philip R. Dodge, David Kipnis, William Landau, Samuel Guze, and Philip Needleman, during his tenure as dean.

Glaser discusses his undergraduate and medical school experiences at Harvard University and his residency and years on the faculty as assistant and associate dean of the Washington University School of Medicine. Glaser explains his research in the uses of penicillin and his work in the rheumatic fever clinic during the late 1940s and 1950s. He also discusses some of his colleagues at Washington University, including Barry Wood, Robert A. Moore, Evarts A. Graham, and Carl Moore. Glaser discusses his experience serving as dean of the medical schools at Colorado and Stanford universities, and his work as a foundation executive of the Commonwealth Fund, the Kaiser Foundation and the Markey Charitable Trust.

This collection consists of material mostly from the year 1964, which was the year when the dispute between the medical school and Edgar M. Queeny, speaking for the Barnes Hospital Trustees, reached a point when there was practically no area of the joint operation on which the two institutions could agree. Material regarding Carl V. Moore's appointment as the first Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs is included, as well as correspondence from M. Kenton King, Dr. Dempsey's successor as Dean. The text of Dr. Dempsey's resignation as Dean, his curriculum vitae and his obituary from 1975 are also included in the papers.

Minnich discusses her undergraduate studies at Ohio State University and her graduate studies at Iowa State College. She describes research work in college on serum iron metabolism, done with Carl V. Moore, and his later offer of employment as a researcher at the Washington University School of Medicine in 1938. Minnich details some of her research on iron metabolism, anemias and purpura, as well as her work setting up laboratories in Thailand and Turkey. She also discusses her work creating audio-visual teaching aids, teaching evening classes, and changes in the Washington University School of Medicine over her 40-plus year career.

He also discusses building the psychiatry program at Washington University with his colleagues Eli Robins and George Winokur, his studies of the genetics of psychiatric disorders, and the interest and development of child psychiatry as a discipline within the medical school. Colleagues such as M. Kenton King. Virginia Weldon, Paula J. Clayton, Lee Robins, and James Anthony are discussed.
