The papers comprise her personal and professional records, a significant amount of correspondence and working papers, as well as notebooks, research notes, manuscript fragments, and transcriptions from Vienna Circle discussions. They also include annotated books from her personal library. The personal and professional records cover items such as legal and educational documents, testimonials, financial and health care records, as well as photographs, travel documents, and address books. Her working papers, manuscripts, transcriptions, and note books record largely her work as a translator, her own research, and discussions and presentations from the Vienna Circle. The correspondence is extensive, more than 1600 letters, and covers a wide range of dates, from the early period in Vienna to the time right after her death. Correspondents include prominent members of the Vienna Circle and affiliated individuals, such as Rudolf Carnap, Moritz Schlick, Otto Neurath, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Karl Popper. Covered are also exchanges with the Polish philosophers Tadeusz Kotarbinski, Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz, and Alfred Tarski, with family and friends, and numerous institutions. The books from her library are all annotated and amount to 48 volumes. Their topics concern mostly philosophy of science and logic. They are stored in 2 paige boxes together with the manuscript collection.

Also includes restricted files including: Quine's recommendations written for others along with resumes and correspondence; files about students; correspondence concerning the recommending and selection of candidates for teaching positions, awards, etc...; and some Harvard University departmental files. Series I, the large, general correspondence series, includes many prominent correspondents in the world of 20th-century philosophy, and much conversation about departments at Harvard University and various philosophical societies and journals. The Carnap Papers contain some 10,000 pages of letters to and from Carnap, which cover his entire life and career. Since Carnap relied heavily on the mail to discuss important philosophical problems, he corresponded with hundreds of other scholars, among them Herbert Feigl, Carl Gustav Hempel, Felix Kaufmann, Otto Neurath, and Moritz Schlick. A substantial collection of photographs taken throughout Carnap's life depicts him, his relatives, and a number of thinkers with whom he worked closely. mong Carnap's student notes, perhaps the most interesting come from his seminars with Frege, which were devoted to the Begriffsschrift and the role of logic in mathematics. Also available are Carnap's notes from Russell's seminar at Chicago and notes he took from discussions with Quine, Tarski, Gödel, Hempel, Jeffrey, Heisenberg, and many others. More than 1,000 pages of lecture outlines for courses that Carnap taught in Vienna, Prague, and the U.S. trace his development as a teacher. Moreover, the collection includes manuscript drafts and typescripts both for his published works and for many unpublished papers and books. In addition, two unpublished papers represent first formulations of Carnap's Aufbau. "Quasizerlegung" ("Quasianalysis," 1932, 21 pp.) outlines the analytical methods for defining quality classes, and "Vom Chaos zur Wirklichkeit" ("From Chaos to Reality," 1922, 14 pp.) represents his first attempt at a construction system using more than six basic relations, instead of one as in the Aufbau. "Topologie der Raum-Zeit-Welt" (Topology of the Space-Time World, 1924) is Carnap's 104-page attempt at a logical reconstruction of the space-time framework of modern physics without using numbers. These are only a few examples of Carnap's many unpublished papers. Much material is written in an outdated German shorthand (the Stolze-Schrey system), which Carnap used extensively since his student days. Please note that when the Carnap papers were initially processed, the intention was to preserve as much as possible Carnap's original filing system (and occasionally lack thereof) as to the order, content, and titles of the file folders. Therefore, unrelated items may appear in series groupings. In addition, some series may partially repeat in subject matter or format.

Discussed throughout the collection are exhibitions and publications, including the following works of Roh: "Streit um die Moderne Kunst," "Hollaendischen Malerei," "Art of the 20th century," "Photo-Auge," and "Die Kunst und das schoene Heim." There is little material extant for the Nazi period and the war years, but there is extensive discussion of de-Nazification and of the personal history of correspondents during the Nazi era.

The papers originate from Hempel's office at Princeton University. The majority of the material was organized by Hempel according to various filing systems. Whenever possible, the original order has been maintained. The greater part of the papers is in English, but a considerable amount is also in German, and a few items are in French. The papers feature some early, pre-immigration material from Hempel's European period while living in Berlin, Vienna, and Brussels. The majority of the documents, however, stem from his post-immigration period in the U.S. The papers are divided into five series. Hempel's biographical material covers mainly the years 1928 to 1966 and comprises personal and educational records, such as diaries, notebooks, diplomas, and professional records, e.g. curricula vitae and employment correspondence. The correspondence series extends from the 1920s to the 1990s, with the bulk of the material concentrating on the years 1940-1990. The correspondence is subdivided into general correspondence; exchanges between Hempel, Paul Oppenheim, and Kurt Grelling; contacts between Hempel, Oppenheim, and other correspondents; family correspondence; and letters of recommendation, which are currently closed to research access. Documents in the research, lectures and publications series consist of Hempel's research manuscripts and notes, lecture drafts, book inserts, and a variety of material pertaining to his conference participations, contributions, and publications, generally focusing on the years 1950 to 1990. Manuscripts on both the Carus and Gavin David Young lectures are contained in two separate subseries. Hempel's teaching materials include folders he prepared for his graduate and undergraduate classes, in particular at the Universities of Yale, Princeton, and Pittsburgh, mostly covering the years 1949-1985. It also features a few dissertations and administrative documents. Please note that due to the sensitive and confidential nature of some of the material, access to this series is restricted. Finally, the offprints series is divided into offprints authored by Hempel and offprints authored by others. Offprints of others' publications are organized from A-Z according to author. Most of them contain handwritten annotations and dedications to Hempel, and some prominent authors in the field are featured. Some series are divided into subseries.

Correspondence contains about 9,000 pages and ranges over his entire career. It includes substantial exchanges with Rudolph Carnap, Ernst Cassirer, Philipp Frank, Sidney Hook, Paul Oppenheim, Wolfgang Pauli, and others. There is also significant correspondence with thinkers like Bergmann, Dingler, Dubislav, Grelling, von Laue, Morris, Nagel, Planck, Schrödinger, Tarski, and Zilsel. The correspondence provides not only valuable information about Reichenbach's own philosophical development but also important background material for research into one of this century's most influential philosophical movements: Gesellschaft für empirische Philosophie (the Berlin Circle). Collection also contains substantial amount of notes and lecture outlines, including lectures from Einstein, Hilbert, and Planck. Also notes from Reichenbach's own lectures and presentations on topics in the natural sciences, mathematics and philosophy, as well as social issues and popularizations of relativity theory and quantum mechanics. The collection contains some of Benson's student notes of classes and seminars attended at University of California at Los Angeles, Columbia, and Harvard, as well as some of his term papers submitted during this time, and later professional papers. Several of the student papers include comments by his teachers, many of whom are renowned individuals in the field of philosophy of science, such as Ernest Nagel, Bertrand Russell, C.I. Lewis, and Rudolf Carnap. Various drafts of Benson's often referred to complete bibliography of Carnap's works are among Benson's professional papers. The second part of the collection consists of material relating to Rudolf Carnap, such as correspondence between Carnap and Benson, notes and manuscript drafts authored by Carnap, and material related to Carnap's publications, such as translations and posthumous publication work by Benson. Included are also undated black and white photographic prints of Rudolf Carnap in class, probably taken during his time at UCLA, and audio recordings of German radio broadcasts in honor of Carnap's 100th birthday, as well as of speeches from the Carnap memorial gathering in 1971.
