Reuben R. Rinder papers, 1907-1966.
Title:
Reuben R. Rinder papers, 1907-1966.
The collection consists of correspondence; cantorial materials; musical arrangements, compositions and programs; biographical materials; certificates and honors; some of Rinder's writings and speeches; items from Rinder's tenure at Temple Emanu-El; and photographs. The correspondence consists of general correspondence as well as correspondence on particular topics (such as the commissioning of Chagall for a window at Emanu-El and Rinder's liturgical research trip to Israel) and correspondence with prominent individuals. Among the correspondents in the collection are the following: Ansel Adams; Abraham W. Binder; Henry Cowell; Monroe Deutsch; Mischa Elman; Enrique Jorda; Louis Lurie; Dorothy Warenskjold; and Rabbis Stephen Wise, Rudolph Coffee, David de Sola Pool, Ernest Bloch, Darius Milhaud, Marc Lavry, Paul Ben-Haim, and Frederick Jacobi (the last five of these are composers commissioned by Rinder to write music for Emanu-El). The collection also includes correspondence on child prodigies (including Yehudi Menuhin; Isaac Stern; and Miriam Solovieff) whom Rinder encouraged and for whom he found sponsors. Other notable items in the collection include: copies of Rinder's histories of the Board of Rabbis of Northern California and Congregation Emanu-El, together with minutes from Emanu-El (1957) discussing mixed marriages; two conversion certificates; correspondence from Bronislaw Huberman relating to the founding (1936) of the Palestine Orchestra which was composed of refugees escaping Nazi Germany, for which Rinder was the first to collect funds.

Jascha Heifetz Collection 1802-1987 (bulk 1911-1974)
The collection includes Heifetz's personal music library of original compositions, arrangements, and transcriptions (some of which are unpublished), his annotated parts and scores, holographs and manuscripts of many of his contemporaries, and hundreds of printed scores. Archive - Joseph Yasser Papers
Title:
Archive - Joseph Yasser Papers
The Joseph Yasser Collection at the Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary consists almost entirely of the papers of Joseph Yasser (1893-1981), the Russian-American organist, music theorist and musicologist. Included are Yasser's subject files, 1895-1979, which contain photos, programs, correspondence (Russian and English), research notes and typescripts of several articles and scholarly papers. The papers also comprise Yasser's teaching materials, 1951-ca. 1960, and a few of his manuscript musical compositions and sketches, ca. 1920-1928. Also included in the collection are Yasser's two books: A Theory of Evolving Tonality (New York, 1932) and Medieval Quartal Harmony (New York, 1938), plus his pamphlet, Bibliography of Books and Articles on Jewish Music (New York, 1955) and Albert Weisser's pamphlet, Selected Writings of Joseph Yasser: an Annotated Bibliography (New York, 1970).

Koussevitzky, Serge, 1874-1951. Serge Koussevitzky Archive, 1920-1976 (bulk: 1924-1951)
Title:
Serge Koussevitzky Archive 1920-1976 (bulk 1924-1951)
The archive is a collection of correspondence, personal and business papers, photographs, and other materials which document some of the most significant aspects of twentieth-century music. Through his work as a conductor and publisher, and his efforts to commission new musical works, Koussevitzky maintained deep ties with many of the finest composers and musicians of the day. These figures are represented in their personal and professional affiliations with the conductor. In addition to serving as a record of Koussevitzky's life and career, the collection extensively chronicles periods in the history of organizations such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Berkshire Music Center, the Koussevitzky Music Foundation, and the American International Music Fund. Material in the collection dates from Koussevitzky's years in his native Russia. The bulk of the collection dates from 1924 to 1951; it also contains material created after Koussevitzky's death, reflecting his widow's continuing work with various organizations and projects. Musical compositions commissioned by Serge Koussevitzky are part of the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation Collection, and are shelved in ML30.3c, ML30.3c2, ML30.3c3, and ML30.3e2.
