Lark Interview Project. Lark, Utah, oral interviews, 1978.
Title:
Lark, Utah, oral interviews, 1978.
This collection contains a 1978 oral interview project directed by Paul Ganster, faculty member of the History and Geography Department at Utah State University. This project was a collection of information about Hispanic residents of Lark, Utah, at the time of its purchase. Residents of Lark, Utah, were forced to relocate in 1978 when the Kennecott Copper Corporation bought the land from U.V. Industries. The interviews provide background information, moving intentions, and financial options for residents. Some of the interviews addressed ethnic information and minority treatment. Also included is the 1978 Ogden Minority/Utah State University Student Collection addressing prejudice and minority treatment of Hispanics in Utah. The Lark Interview Project collection is in order alphabetically by interviewee.

Alvin, Casimir D.,. Oral history interview with Casimir D. Alvin. [manuscript]. 1974.
Title:
Oral history interview with Casimir D. Alvin. [manuscript]. 1974.
In 1959, during negotiations between the United Steelworkers of America and eleven steel companies, Cass Alvin first published Laff Releases, satirical and speculative news commentaries concerning the negotiations. In the first interview, Mr. Alvin discusses the Laff Releases coverage of the 1959 negotiations and resolutions, including the meeting between President Eisenhower and Steelworkers President David McDonald, and the meeting between David McDonald, steel magnate Conrad Cooper, and Francis Cardinal Spellman. He also discusses Laff Releases coverage of the 1962 USWA convention in Miami Beach, focusing on the length of office for union officials, the presidential candidacy of John F. Kennedy, and the rise of the union technician involved with collective bargaining and administration of the contract. In the second interview, Mr. Alvin continues with a discussion of the Laff Releases coverage of the 1964 and 1966 USWA conventions in Atlantic City. He also discusses the 1967-68 copper strike and the 1967 merger between the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers Union and the United Steelworkers of America. Some issues of Laff Releases are included with the typescript.
