The papers consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, compilations, and miscellaneous papers related to Grant's work in the Episcopal Church and in the East Side of Charleston, including information (mostly lists) re black Episcopalians in the U.S. and conferences for the Diocese of South Carolina, papers re St. John's Mission Center (at old St. John's Episcopal Church, Charleston) pertaining to its financial status and various outreach programs, papers re the renovation (1980s) of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Charleston, S.C.), and papers re the various civic and social organizations of which Grant was a member. Photographs depict Grant at work among his parishioners and include photographs of his friends and associates, including an autographed photo of Rep. James Clyburn (Democrat, S.C.).

This series also includes polls and opinion surveys, congratulatory and thank you letters, lists of grants obtained by the Senator for South Carolina, patronage files, case files and petitions. These items relate to campaign planning and administration, fund-raising and financial management, publicity and public relations, and information gathering on opponents and their campaigns. It may be in- or out-of-state. Of particular interest is material concerning the 1954 "write-in" senatorial campaign, the 1964 Goldwater and 1968 Nixon presidential campaigns, and the 1978 senatorial campaign.

Morris during research for his 1997 Clemson dissertation entitled A History of the South Carolina Technical Education System, 1961-1991. Common topics of interest include: the caliber of student that the technical school system aimed for, admission of African American students, demographics (specifically related to gender changes over the years), attempts by technical institutions to become four-year colleges, controversy over whether or not to include "junior college" or "technical school" in institutional names, questions and politics concerning the physical placement of technical schools within the state of South Carolina, insight into how institutional missions and curricula where determined, changes in marketing strategies regarding public awareness, the economic impact that the technical school system has afforded South Carolina, and the tenures of both Julio Bortolazzo and Charlie Parker as Executive Directors of the State Committee for Technical Education.
