Collection comprises drafts and handwritten copies of letters, as well as notes and inventories written and received by the British archaeologist Sir Charles Fellows (1820-1879). The Lady Blessington manuscript material in the Pforzheimer Collection is comprised of literary manuscripts and correspondence. The literary manuscripts consist mainly of poems in English and French, including odes to British writers L.E.L. and Mrs. S.C. Hall. Also held are notebooks of Lady Blessington's "aphorisms," and essay and story pieces -- including a biographical account of Captain Charles Hesse, the lover of Princess Charlotte. The bulk of the correspondence dates from 1835-1840 and discusses her work on the literary magazines, publishing, and friend and family matters. Correspondents include: William Beattie, physician and poet ; William Jerdan, journalist ; Richard Robert Madden, her biographer ; Anne Jackson Mathews, wife of comedian Charles Mathews ; and over two dozen others.

Fellows's letters include detailed descriptions of his archaeological expeditions to Lycia, and Xanthus in particular, with references to the Harpy tomb and the Ionic monument which were obtained for the British Museum. Includes letters to and from Edward Hawkins, Keeper of Antiquities at the British Museum, about the procurement of the Xanthian marbles, J. Forshall, Secretary of the Trustees of the British Museum, and Robert Hesketh, the architect who accompanied Fellows to Asia Minor.
