Title:
Marjorie Campbell postcards, and other materials received from Renée Ruffy, 1902-1929.
The bulk of this collection revolves around the early twentieth-century friendship of Marjorie Campbell of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, and Renée Ruffy of the Seine-et-Marne region of France. It includes printed postcards featuring images of France, photographs, three letters, and nine sketches, mostly of plants with specimens folded within the sketches. Most of the messages from Ruffy are written in French; some are in French and English. The remainder of the collection contains items involving the Campbell family. These include various printed postcards, photographic postcards (possibly of family members and friends, none are written on the verso), postcards illustrated by Marjorie's brother, David A. Campbell, Marjorie Campbell's commencement program for the 1922 graduation of Philipsburg High School, and a 1902 visitors day program from Philipsburg High School. Correspondence in the form of postcards includes several from Rosanna [Campbell?] (sent from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania), 1910, to David, Marjorie, and Thelma Campbell (two of them describe a trip to Watkins Glen, New York); one from M.H. Dunlap to Marjorie's father, Charles Cammel [i.e. Campbell], February 11, 1910; one from Jane [last name not given] to David Campbell, January 22, 1912; one from and illustrated by R.C. Bridgens of Central State Normal School to David Campbell, Dec. 13, 1917; one from J.T. Scott to Marjorie's father, Charles A. Campbell, May 25, 1922; one from P.X. Rice to Miss (Marjorie) Campbell while she was a secretary at Pennsylvania State College, sent from Edinburgh, June 29, 1923, asking her to hold mail for him while he leaves for England; and one from Ella M. Ward to Marjorie's sister, Miss Katherine Campbell, June 29, 1929.
