The diary briefly notes troop movements; Benedict Arnold's betrayal and the subsequent execution of his British contact, Major John André; Lafayette's arrival in Boston; Count Rochambeau's landing in Newport; and various battles. Original in Library of Congress.

His diary was kept for 1778, while he was an aide to Washington, and is interleaved in William Andrews, Poor Will's Pocket Almanack (Philadelphia: J. Crukshank, 1777). The entries are brief, but significant, and note events concerning Washington's Army. Events mentioned include the Franco-American Alliance, the Carlisle Peace Commission, the Battle of Monmouth, and the Franco-American attack on Newport.
